Guna Yala is an indigenous region in Panama, inhabited by the Guna people. Formerly known as San Blas until 1998, it has been called Guna Yala since 2010. Meaning of Guna Yala<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Guna Yala in the Guna language means \u201cGuna Land\u201d or \u201cGuna Mountain.\u201d The area was formally known as San Blas, along with the indigenous name Kuna Yala, but this was changed in October 2011 when the Panamanian government recognized the Guna people's claim that the letter \u201cK\u201d did not exist in their native language and that the official name should be Guna Yala.
